TNF Preview: 9/21/17 Rams Vs 49ers
3 Must Start Players
Todd Gurley is the number one fantasy player in this match up. Last wee he looked more like the Todd we all learned to love his rookie year rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown. Next week he takes on the 49ers defense who are currently ranked 23rd against the run. With Jared Goff playing the way this team drafted him to play, not to mention Sammy Watkins and Cooper Kupp catching passes from him, defenses can no longer stack the box like they did last year. Look for Gurley to take advantage and have another solid performance.
Carlos Hyde is averaging 7.0 yards per carry and the 49ers still are giving him the carries he deserves. The Rams, being ranked 29th against the run and giving up 152 yards per game, will have their hands full Carlos Hyde. There could be a concern with the rams not having to worry about the 49er passing game however i still expect Carlos Hyde to build off of his monster performance against Seattle. Carlos Hyde is also the second highest receiver for the team also.
The 49ers passing offense is ranked 31st in the NFL, 5 spots behind Indianapolis and we all remember what the Rams did to them, making the Rams defense a must start this week. Brian Hoyer throwing to Pierre Garçon, a player well on the down slope of his career, is just not going to be a big challenge. I predict one or two picks with maybe one being returned for a touchdown.
Jared Goff has been looking surprisingly good this season after a horrendous rookie campaign. He did have a little slump last week against the Redskins following his solid performance against the Colts. Look for Jared Goff to bounce back this week against a team that will be turning over the ball quite a bit this week. Goff will be given plenty of opportunities to make plays, especially with Todd Gurley to keep defenses on their toes.
It is sad to call Sammy Watkins, the 4th overall pick and a rookie fantasy stud, a sleeper. The Rams traded for Sammy Watkins to behind their number one guy, however Watkins has been underwhelming at best. Cooper Kupp and Gerald Everette performances have certainly taken attention away from Watkins, however they didn’t trade for him to only get 3 targets a game. Sammy Watkins hasn’t dropped a pass this season and i see a potential breakout week for Sammy Watkins against a porous 49ers defense.
